I actually started out playing trombone, but after picking up a saxophone for the first time, that was pretty much that. Sorry, trombone.
I’ve been lucky enough to play in all sorts of settings over the years, from military and community bands to rock bands and jazz ensembles. I’ve performed at Edinburgh Castle, played at events in London and had the chance to be part of some pretty incredible performances.
But somewhere along the way, I discovered house and disco with live sax over the top, and everything changed.
That was the kind of music I wanted to play.
There’s just something about a sax coming in over a track everyone already knows. Whether it’s during a drinks reception, getting people onto the dance floor or appearing right in the middle of a packed crowd, it completely changes the atmosphere.
That’s what eventually became CM Sax.
These days, I play weddings, parties, corporate events and pretty much any celebration where people want good music and a great atmosphere. My sets cover everything from house and Ibiza classics to disco, dance and modern favourites, and I’m always happy to work around the kind of music you actually like.
I’m not really interested in turning up, playing the same set list I played last weekend and heading home. Every crowd is different, so I like to read the room, get involved and see where the night goes.
Sometimes that means a chilled drinks reception.
Sometimes it means standing in the middle of a dance floor surrounded by people who have completely forgotten the concept of personal space.
I’m very happy with either.
